FESF was established in 1957 using the proceeds from the sale and liquidation of the Federal Merchandise Mart store (later renamed Fed Mart). In 1997 the Fed-Mart Trust became the Federal Employees Scholarship Foundation.
Operating as a non-profit corporation, the Foundation is no longer limited to helping Federal employees only.
Today aspiring students from all over San Diego County can look to FESF to help them pursue their educational dreams.
